Did you know that blood is toxic to our brains? Or that the heart pumps blood less like a hand squeezing a stress ball, and more like water being wrung out of a towel?
In February of 2021, I graduated my a B.Sc Human Kinetics program with a minor in Neuroscience, and a brow that was bursting with curiosity. At this time, COVID-19 was shutting business down still, and episodes of quarantine, mingled with terminology like “epidemic/pandemic/endemic” now commonplace, I was easily frustrated that things were not as I had predicted they would be some years ago.
I was doubly frustrated that I was now a full-time residential painter, instead of continuing to learn and use my education for good. I didn’t want to become a neurosurgeon, or a physiotherapist, or a personal trainer, but there were elements to each of those occupations I admired.
Time went on, however, and in 2022, I had completed a college certificate that taught me foundational photoshop skills, how to draw, and allowed me to explore art as an expressive form. My program taught me a lot of new and useful skills, but had slowly separated me from my interest in academia.
I had begun to approach the world with less curiosity, less “why’s” and “how’s”, and spent less time reflecting on experiences, preferring instead to focus my attentions on how to achieve more with less — partly a explanation for the brevity of my introduction, but the point of this into isn’t to apologize in advance for long, boring entries (nor for any short and fun ones!).
The Glossy Mage is destined to be a place of refuge for my interests, whatever the day’s flavor. Prepare yourselves for photos, reports, creative writing, or an opinion piece on recent readings. The point of this site is so that these interests have a unified place to be presented, seen, and hopefully enjoyed!
My posting schedule isn’t set yet, but I hope to be able to work on 2 posts a week, (Wednesday and Saturday), starting on September 21st. Thanks for tuning in!
